Having lived in both Mill Creek for eight years and now Edmonds for five, and also having lived in New England for many more years, I got to thinking about how these two areas are alike and are different.
Let me start with an old New England proverb: “buy it old, make it new, wear it out, do without.”
That sums up very well the thriftiness of the spirit of New England. If you have an old car, you simply don’t buy a new one because it needs a repair. You also don’t buy one when the car is unreliable enough to give you pause about taking it on a long trip. If your home is under 100...
