Ruth E. Gilbertson:  1924-2014

Posted

Ruth Evangeline Gilbertson, age 90, has gone to join her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a long-time resident of Mukilteo and passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2014, at Mountain Glen Retirement Community in Mount Vernon, where she had resided for the past four years. She was born on April 19, 1924, in Taylor, Wisconsin, the daughter of Oluf and Clara Fosso.

Ruth spent her younger years in Alaska with her brothers, sisters and parents, who were Lutheran Missionaries and had many adventures and amazing stories of the frontier life. On November 17, 1945, she married Duaine (Gil) Gilbertson in Anacortes, and they began their lives together. Ruth retired from State Farm Insurance as a Senior Claims Specialist (Cash for your crash) after 38 years with the company.

Gil and Ruth had a love of boating and fishing. The couple traveled the waters of Puget Sound and Canada for much of their lives together. Most of it was on “Oluf” their 36-foot Trojan, which was like a second home to them. Many happy memories and fish stories originated on that deck.

Ruth is survived by her son Ron (Bethany) Gilbertson of Mount Vernon; her brother, Don (Peggy) Fosso of Oak Harbor, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Gil on August 7, 1990; two brothers, Paul Fosso and Harold Fosso; and two sisters, Corrine Billdt Stuen and Alalie Johnson.

A viewing was held on Monday, December 8, at Kern Funeral Home. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, December 9, at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park in Everett, followed by a reception in the Community Center at the Losvar Condominiums in Mukilteo.

In Ruth’s memory, the family requests that you make a donation to a charity of your choice.
