The Mukilteo Community Orchestra presents its second concert of the season at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10 at the Rosehill Community Center. This free concert, “Sweeping Forces,” features Brahms’ Tragic Overture and Symphony No. 3 by Florence Price.
The concert is part of the orchestra’s season theme, Finding Community Through Musical Narratives. The first piece is Johannes Brahms’s Tragic Overture, Op 81. Brahms is one of the most renowned classical composers of all time.
He was greatly inspired by Beethoven and nurtured early in his career by Robert Schumann. In 1880, the University of Breslau prepared to award Brahms an honorary doctoral degree in philosophy. In response, he composed his Academic Festival Overture for the presentation. Brahms Tragic Overture, Op 81 was composed the same year.
