Safety improvements could be coming to 525 bridge

Port of Everett releases draft vision statement, guiding principles for waterfront redevelopment

The City Council appears ready to proceed with safety improvements on the SR 525 bridge that could include a widening of the sidewalk and ADA ramps on both sides of the bridge. Councilmembers are planning to discuss the project at an upcoming work session.

There appears to be strong support in the Mukilteo City Council for moving ahead with safety improvements to the SR 525 bridge.

During Monday's council meeting, Public Works Director Matt Nienhuis provided an update on the project that started in 2016. The original issue the council was attempting to address was safe pedestrian access to the waterfront.

"The vision that came out of that was to construct safe public access across the railroad tracks, the 525 crossing, and access should provide for all modes of travel ... pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicles," Nienhuis said. "So, safe public...
