Letter to the Editor: City should avoid the spraying of herbicide in our community

I recently sent the following to the City of Mukilteo:
"Last spring the Mukilteo DPW (Department of Public Works) did an extensive spraying of herbicide along virtually all of our street verges. There are three reasons why this is a very bad idea. First, all herbicides, when first sprayed, are toxic chemicals for humans, pets and wildlife. The quantity the DPW dumped into our environment last spring was appalling in my professional opinion. Second, any runoff from a storm event would have contaminated Puget Sound, destroying both needed aquatic growth, and adding unwanted chemicals to fish...
