Letter to the Editor: Mayor Marine should stick with his original choices for DEI Commission

The March 7 City Council meeting was really a spectacle. It is apparent that the council is going to make things difficult for Mayor Joe Marine, and council newcomer Jason Moon indicates he's not ready to make tough decisions. Moon abstained from voting to approve the three chosen Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Commission applicants who were all very qualified and diverse.

They were just who you would hope for on a DEI committee, people who have traditionally been under-represented and from cultures very different from "White America." Moon gave no reason for not voting, but he did a...

What? Did we attend the same council meeting? I saw it as healthy debate over well qualified candidates who were turned down, while one who turned in a slip-shod application (did he/she really want the position?) was chosen. Mayor Marine is not the CEO of a company, he is the titular head of our city. Bravo to our council who pushed back. That is what balance of power is about.
