Steve Schmalz brings experience to City Council

Council meetings returning to virtual only due to omicron

Steve Schmalz is back on the Mukilteo City Council after an absence of two years.

Steve Schmalz seems to have picked up right where he left off.

Even though he was one of two new Mukilteo City Councilmembers formally sworn into office Jan. 3, Schmalz came in a wealth of experience – eight years on the council (2012-2019) and one year as council president (2018) – that few of his colleagues possessed.

The four returning councilmembers – Richard Emery, Elisabeth Crawford, Louis Harris, and Riaz Khan, and the other new councilmember, Tom Jordal – unanimously decided to tap into that experience by electing Schmalz as the new council president. Emery, president in 202...
