Mukilteo woman's mission is to help immigrants thrive

Van Dinh-Kuno is the executive director of Refugee and Immigrant Services Northwest.

Van Dinh-Kuno and her family barely had enough time to gather their belongings when they left Vietnam to come to the United States at the end of the Vietnam War in 1975.

"My family had 25 minutes to pack our bags," the longtime Mukilteo resident said. "We escaped by boat."

The family ended up in Subic Bay in the Philippines, and eventually was transferred to an army base in Arkansas, where they stayed for four months. Dinh-Kuno's family later moved to Minnesota after a church there sponsored them.
