Mukilteo answers the call for blood donations

Mukilteo resident Kathy Wilson donates blood during Bloodworks Northwest's pop-up event Thursday, Aug. 6, at Rosehill Community Center.

For the last four months, Kathy Wilson has been trying to donate blood.

But appointments at Bloodworks Northwest's Everett Donor Center were difficult to schedule.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for social distancing, Bloodworks Northwest had to pull all of its mobile units off the streets and discontinue its outreach to schools and businesses, which were a major part of its collection efforts.

"So what do we do?" Bloodworks marketing and communications manager John Yeager said. "We had to find a different way to do it."
