Cement truck loses brakes, plunges into ravine

First responders climb out of a ravine where a cement truck rests on its side. The driver told police the brakes gave out as he headed down Chennault Beach Road at Marine View Drive.
A loaded cement truck plunged down a ravine at the bottom of Chennault Beach Road just before 9 a.m. Tuesday when its brakes gave out.
According to police, without brakes to slow the truck as it headed west down the steep road, the driver was unable to negotiate the 90-degree turn north onto Marine View Drive. Instead, the truck plowed through part of a resident's hedge, then crashed through trees and brush before turning on its side about 75 feet down the ravine.
