City earns another clean audit

December 11, 2019

The City of Mukilteo has received a clean audit opinion from the Washington State Auditor’s Office for the third year in a row. The Auditor’s Office published the 2018 audit reports on financial statements and accountability Nov. 21.

“The City of Mukilteo is committed to responsible stewardship of public resources and transparent financial management,” Mayor Jennifer Gregerson said. “This clean, independent audit opinion reflects these commitments and is a result of the dedication of our wonderful staff throughout the organization.”

These two audits covered the period of Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2018. A clean audit report indicates that there were no material deficiencies in the City's financial statements. There are also no instances of noncompliance, internal control weaknesses, or other matters that are required to be reported under the standards of government auditing.

“Our 2018 financial statements present a reliable, accurate picture of the City’s finances and provide valuable information for public stakeholders,” Gregerson said.

She said the Washington State Auditor's Office independently serves the citizens of Washington by promoting accountability, fiscal integrity, and openness in state and local government to ensure the efficient and effective use of public resources.
