The South Everett-Mukilteo Rotary Club has named two Mariner students as Students of the Month for September and October.
Loretta Allen is the September Student of the Month. Allen is very active with school activities. She is a member of the French Club, Orchestra, Key Club, National Honor Society, and is a tutor for the school's writing center. During her freshman year, Allen was one of only 25 students globally accepted into the Youth Leadership Academy which afforded her opportunity to participate in a week-long leadership academy in Washington D.C. Allen, along with a Mariner teacher and fellow students, also is partnering with Water and Light International to fundraise with a Mariner teacher and students to build a library in Nicaragua.
Sarah Angelos is the October Student of the Month. Angelos is very active with school and volunteer activities. She currently is the captain of the girls swim/dive team, and also is catcher for the softball team. In addition, Angelos is a member of the National Honor Society, Horticulture Club, and is a DECA officer. Angelos has earned numerous awards including taking fifth place in the world last year for a DECA competition, earning Rookie of the Year for girls' swim/dive, and MVP for girls' softball in 2017. Angelos says the following about community service: "Because I grew up in the environment of school activities, I have grown to greatly enjoy spending my time volunteering and practicing servant leadership. Any chance I get to serve others I try to clasp onto. The vast majority of my volunteer hours are centered around serving my high school community. Outside of my high school environment, I spend time volunteering with various church organizations. During the summer I had the privilege to work with young kids of all ages in instructing them on water safety topics and the basics of swimming"
