Defensive-minded Mariner overwhelms Monroe | Boys basketball

Round two went to Mariner.

The Marauders used a suffocating defense and a balanced scoring attack to defeat Monroe 67-48 in a Wesco 4A boys basketball game Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Mariner High School.

The victory helped Mariner (6-3 in the league, 10-5 overall) move into a tie for third place in the league with Mount Vernon (6-3, 9-6). The Bearcats (3-6, 4-11) edged the Marauders 72-70 in a mid-December contest at Monroe High School.
