Letter: Corporate America should contribute locally

James Yoo’s message mentioned creativity (“Council candidates offer takes on transportation tax,” July 5). I also read, and immediately aspired to, his message of accountability.

Researching available options is being innovative, which is at the core of every team’s ability to make decisions. Fresh approaches are often the best choices, which require a fresh set of eyes with a clear, concise and orientated vision, with accountability for any and all proposed actions.

This requires town hall meetings. James Yoo is clearly the most creative, and possibly the most intellectually intelligent, based on his answer. This is a community action statement if I ever heard one. People deserve fair and equitable representation at every level of politics, economics and society.

The May 3 plane crash is an example of what can happen here. Therefore, I’d like to see much more money coming out of corporate America to support initiatives of community development. After all, that crash was due to the fact we are privileged enough to have an airfield, that I don’t use and don’t care to because I have SeaTac and Vancouver B.C.

Creating more corporate America does not solve the issues corporate America originally created for us to solve later. That’s where we are. It’s time to wake up our own corporate America, Mukilteo.

That can go both ways, depending on the negotiations. But we clearly need better negotiations between local politicians and corporate America.
