Thanks to community for supporting Girls on the Run 5K | Letter

Last updated 12/28/2016 at Noon

I'd like to publicly express my gratitude to the community after the recent Girls on the Run of Snohomish County’s Fall 5K at Willis Tucker Community Park in Snohomish. Despite snowy conditions, more than 300 girls, running buddies, community participants, sponsors and volunteers enjoyed a cold, but exciting event.

This was the third 5K, and is the biggest community event we've held since bringing the program to Snohomish County in 2015.

The 5K is the culmination of an 11-week season, and is a time to celebrate each girl and reward the work she’s done. Along with running, the program focuses on personal growth around relevant topics, including friendship, community building, positive thinking, goal setting, compassion and empathy.

Every girl reached her goal when she crossed the finish line – to lots of cheers and applause. This experience sends a very strong message to the girls about their value and worth.

The goal our organization is to expand throughout county, so that more girls can hear that message loud and clear.

The Girls on the Run program and the 5K event are only possible because of the generosity of our community sponsors and volunteers: Home Run Solutions, Swedish Edmonds, Snohomish Running Company, Experience Momentum, Millers Rent-All, The Health & Wellness Center, American Girl, Edmonds Family Medicine, Starbucks Coffee, city of Edmonds, The Cheesemonger’s Table, Mountain Pacific Bank, Celebrate You Events, Victoria Torres Images, Kim Marine Documentation, Pacific Pediatric Dentistry, Rotary of Alderwood-Terrace, and more than 20 event day volunteers who braved the early-morning cold to make sure our 125 girls were encouraged and celebrated.

Thank you Snohomish County for supporting our event, and for providing a real-life example of community building for our girls to see.

Megan Wolfe Executive Director, Girls on the Run of Snohomish County
