Thorp appointed school board's legislative representative | Board Report

During its meeting on Aug. 8, the Mukilteo School Board did the following:

President Judy Schwab opened the business meeting with a statement expressing the board’s and school district’s condolences to all of those impacted by the recent shooting tragedy involving former Mukilteo students.

Approved various federal and state grant applications for categorical programs.

Approved fees and other financial conditions for the fourth year of the school district’s existing five-year contract with Sodexo, which provides management services for the school district’s nutrition services program.

Approved the transfer of all school district banking accounts to Heritage Bank.

Appointed Geoff Thorp to serve as the school board’s legislative representative.

Heard staff presentations about and discussed the following: the draft Capital Facilities Plan for the next six years and proposed impact fees for the next year, and proposed revisions to Board Policy 1240 (Duties of Individual Board Members), Board Policy 1711 (Code of Conduct), Board Policy 3115 (Homeless Students: Enrollment Rights and Services), Board Policy 3240 (Student Conduct), and Board Policy 9271 (Sale of Real Property).

During a work session held before the board meeting, members of the school board toured the construction sites of the new Lake Stickney Elementary and the new early-learning kindergarten center and discussed various items of mutual interest, such as Roberts Rules of Order, long-range levy and bond scheduling, and discipline data. During a closed session, board members also were briefed on the progress of bargaining.
