Mukilteo police responded to a phone call at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night after a 911 caller claimed he had fatally harmed several family members, had barricaded himself, and threatened more harm.
It led to a large police presence in the 12500 block of 55th Place West.
Officers eventually made contact with the residence and discovered the call was a hoax, there was no threat, and no one had been harmed. This is commonly known as “swatting.”
It's a criminal harassment tactic that involves making a false report to emergency services to trigger a large, armed police or a SWAT response at an unsuspecting victim's address,
There is no threat to the public, police say.
