In a recent article I mentioned attending a program at the Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center in Bellevue. While there, I met a man who is knowledgeable about the history of the Newcastle area.

Today, Newcastle is a trendy Eastside suburb of Seattle, one of the highest per capita income areas in Washington. But the history of Newcastle and Coal Creek is nearly as old as Seattle itself, and was critical to the development of Seattle and the region.
