Letter to the Editor: India has no governmental ban or cracking down on religious attire

As a citizen of the United States, a longtime resident of Washington state, co-chair of WASITRAC (Washington State India Trade Relations Action Committee), and an Indian-born American, I strongly object to the factual error about India in the City Council resolution 2022-05 (on religious freedom). There is no government ban or cracking down on any religious attires pertaining to any religious communities in India. India is a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic, and stands strong in its values.

I urge honorable Councilmember Riaz Khan, the proponent of this resolution, remove...
