Mukilteo native Kimberly Beard opened the outdoor season of track and field with a third-place finish in the hammer throw March 4 at the University of Puget Sound Ed Boitano Invitational. Competing for the Get Strong First Track Club of Shoreline, the eighth-grader at Northshore Christian Academy recorded a personal best throw of 140 feet, 9 inches to take third place amongst the collegiate athletes. Beard, the state's leading returning girls prep athlete in the event, had three straight foul throws before coming through on her fourth and final throw, which places her in the top 50 of Washington's all-time girls prep list and 7 feet from the girls freshman state record.
