Spring in New York: Ah, the sweet stench of spring in Manhattan! | Off Kilter

I had the opportunity to visit my hometown last spring. It only took a few minutes to realize why I took off for parts unknown as soon as I was able. (For me, it was age 16, when I left for college – and never came back!)
Now there isn’t anything really wrong with New York City.
Except:
- streets that stink of garbage as all the high-rise apartment buildings put out their trash for collection early the next morning. When I say “stench,” I am not exaggerating. Many of the older rent-controlled buildings in the city do not have all the modern conveniences such as garbage disposals....
