School board votes to cut 'Mockingbird' from curriculum

Long a staple in America's high school English classes, the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel "To Kill a Mockingbird" no longer fits the times or needs of students, or their teachers, in today's multicultural classrooms.
That was the message students and educators relayed to the Mukilteo School District Board of Education on Monday as it considered a recommendation by the Instructional Materials Committee to remove the book from the ninth grade English Language Arts curriculum.
