Carving up works of art – pumpkin style

Mariner Library manager Sandra Beck carves a different pumpkin each week during the month of October. Last week, her work was inspired by Harry Potter.

If you love pumpkins, Halloween, and cool art, then you should plan on stopping by the Mariner Library.

For the next three weeks, visitors have a chance to see some spectacular carved pumpkin art by library manager Sandra Beck.

Each week Beck decides on a theme – last week was Harry Potter ­– and brings in her creation on Mondays.

"A lot of the library ones are book-related, like popular characters who are recognizable to library customers," said Beck, who has worked at the Mariner Library since it opened seven years ago.

It takes Beck two hours to finish a pumpkin carving on average....
