Mukilteo School District Superintendent Alison Brynelson receives the Honorary Public School Employees of Washington Member of the Year Award from Public School Employees Zone 11 director David Nowotny.

Mukilteo School District Superintendent Alison Brynelson was recently presented with the Honorary Public School Employees of Washington (PSE) Member of the Year Award, the most prestigious honor that PSE can bestow to a non-member.

The award was created to honor superintendents, principals, human resources directors and anyone else who has demonstrated concern for and aided classified employees in a significant way.

David Nowotny, Co-MACP vice president, PSE Zone 11 director, and maintenance helper for Mukilteo School District nominated Brynelson for the award.

"I nominated Dr. Brynelson because of her leadership throughout the COVID pandemic; specifically creating safety policies and protocols designed to keep essential staff safe while continuing to provide services in the communities we serve. She has provided clear, concise communications throughout the pandemic to employees and families in our district and never shied away from having difficult conversations or implementing policies that may not be popular," Nowotny said. "I was proud to nominate her because I always felt supported during last year's ups and downs, and that my voice was not just valid, but valued."

The glass bowl Brynelson is holding was presented to her by Nowotny and symbolizes a way to store fond memories.
