DaShanne Stokes' gun violence question would have fit nicely into Joseph Connor's article, "Putting Down the Gun," which was published in the August 2021 issue of American History magazine. The quote wasn't used. But what Connor did write about in "When America imposed controls on firearms" has relevance in today's debate about common sense gun safety legislation.
