Catalytic converter thefts on the rise

Hybrid vehicle owners should have their guard up.

Catalytic converter thefts are on the rise in Mukilteo and beyond.

"It isn't just the city," Mukilteo Detective Sgt. Andy Illyn said. "It's nationwide."

Any time the price of precious metals increase, thefts of catalytic converters follow, Illyn added.

As part of his duties, Illyn keeps track of the prices of metals. About a year ago, prices started to rise.

An April 2021 report (https://bit.ly/3ulpDgP) by the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office noted that catalytic converter thefts nationwide and locally saw a rise. The car part is attached...
