Letter to the Editor: A greener solution: Build a Mukilteo/Clinton tunnel

A Mukilteo-Clinton tunnel is a greener solution than two new hybrid-ferries. The Mukilteo-Clinton ferry route burns 1.6 million gallons of diesel fuel and emits 17,000 metric tons of CO2 annually.
To eliminate this emission, Washington State Ferries plans to replace the current ferries with two new 144-car electric-hybrids. This is a good green solution, but there is an even greener solution.
A Mukilteo-Clinton tunnel would also eliminate greenhouse gases, but with 94% less energy consumption. Electric-hybrid ferries will consume 33 million kilowatt-hours annually. Electric vehicles drive...
