The area now known as Mukilteo Lighthouse Park has a long history. Native Americans used the land for thousands of years and local tribes held inter-tribal conferences in this area. Due to this rich history, any digging or project requires a consultation with archeologists due to the potential to disrupt the shell midden or artifacts.

After the town of Mukilteo was established in the early 1900s, some residents built houses on the beach. Edith Baudry wrote that her family lived in one of three houses on the beach between the lighthouse and the seawall.
