Dungeness Spit is a long sand spit jutting out about 5 miles from the northern edge of the Olympic Peninsula in northeastern Clallam County into the Strait of Juan de Fuca. It is the longest natural sand spit in the United States. The spit is growing in length by about 15 feet per year.
In our Freewheelin' explorations we find a way to walk out into the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Yep! You might remember that the Salish Sea dumps water into the Pacific Ocean via this Strait.
