Letter to the editor: Oppose those who are more concerned with corporate profits than health of citizenry

Last updated 10/28/2020 at 11:08am

At first it was hard to believe. Then thought that it had to be a joke. A very bad joke.

But it is true. While America is dealing with the worst health crisis in a century and more than 210,000 of our fellow citizens have died from a preventable disease … our so-called President is in the Supreme Court attempting to overturn the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare).

In Washington alone, that would mean 565,000 people losing healthcare and another 3.1 million who would lose protections for pre-existing conditions.

And while Trump hopes to leave his legacy with another justice on the court, who would vote to take away life-saving care to millions of Americans, he continues to repeat the same empty pledge that he will have something better and cheaper to replace the landmark legislation of his predecessor.

This President has spent his term focused on reversing every piece of progressive legislation fought for and approved during the eight years of the Obama presidency.

It is imperative that we not only reject this President at the polls on Nov. 3, but rally to oppose his henchmen, who are more concerned with corporate profits and their own re-election than the health and welfare of the people they were elected to serve.

Our congressman, Rick Larsen voted in favor of the Patient Protection Program and Affordable Care Enhancement Act that would build on the foundation of the ACA by lowering the cost of healthcare and the prices of prescription drugs. We need more lawmakers, like Larsen, who understand they are elected to serve as our representative in more than just title.

They should also protect us from the short-sighted, narcissistic officials who have tumbled from their lofty thrones.
