October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Mukilteo Police Department will replace their regular badges for pink ones to support this national effort.

Mukilteo Police Officers will be authorized to wear pink badges or pink breast cancer awareness ribbons on their uniforms during the month of October to raise awareness and show support for the fight against breast cancer. Mukilteo Police Department staff members purchased the badges and ribbons themselves and a portion of the sales are donated to breast cancer research charities.

According to U.S. breast cancer statistics, 85% of breast cancers occur in women and in the United States 1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. The risk of breast cancer in men is about 1 in 1,000.

"I am authorizing the wearing of pink badges and ribbons by our staff to do our part in raising awareness to this important cause. We are pleased to take part in the fight against breast cancer," Police Chief Cheol Kang said.
