Washington State Ferries has closed a section of the vehicle holding lanes at its Mukilteo terminal this week.

Crews are using the upper portion of lanes 18 through 22 to stage construction of a temporary road connecting SR- 525/Mukilteo Speedway to the new ferry terminal one-third of a mile to the east.

Lanes 1 through 17, about the capacity of one vessel, will remain open. Washington State Ferries plan to use the lower portion of lanes 18 through 22 during peak times only. When the new facility opens at the end of the year, work will begin on a permanent road.
