Wesco schools delay start of high school sports

Football is shifted to spring as a part of new schedule

Football will now be played in the spring, the WIAA announced, due to the effects of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.

The start of the prep sports season has been pushed back to 2021.

Wesco athletic directors voted to shift the two sports scheduled for the fall – cross country and boys tennis – to the third of four newly created seasons by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA), the governing body for high school sports in Washington.

The decision by the Mukilteo, Edmonds, Everett, Shoreline and Stanwood Camano school districts to begin the school year with online/distance learning and no on-campus instruction raised a number of issues, according to Everett School District athleti...
