Letter to the editor | Harbour Pointe Golf Course is a gem in our community

Series: Coronavirus | Story 101

I have the good fortune to live less than a 10-minute walk from our beautiful Harbour Pointe Golf Course. Not being a golfer, the only time I had ever walked on any of it, before its current closure to golfing due to the COVID-19, was when it was covered with snow.

But during its closure I've walked the front nine many times, which was a special treat during the abundant beautiful days we had during April. And, yes, I sympathize with the golfers, who include my brother, who weren't able to be out there golfing during the most beautiful golfing weather we'll ever have during April.

The course was a perfect place to go for long walks – 3.3 miles around the front nine – and easily do the social distancing with all that room. I hope the other walkers out there appreciate the gem the course is with how it is laid out to include natural features, such as originated woods on its edges and the original wetlands as its water hazards, which may be a reason our city is recognized as a backyard wildlife sanctuary.

So with the course to reopen Tuesday I'm happy for the golfers. If only because it will restore just a little sense of normalcy! Enjoy!
