The 2020 Lighthouse Festival has been canceled, according to a news release from the Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival Association Monday, May 10.
The festival was scheduled for Sept. 11-13 at Lighthouse Park in Mukilteo.
The association also has canceled the Lighthouse Festival Parade and Run-A-Muk events.
“Out of abundance of caution, the Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival Association has made the heart wrenching decision to cancel this year’s festival due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Candace Felt, President of the Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival Association. “With the uncertainty of where we will be in September and with the consideration for the safety of attendees of all ages, vendors, volunteers, and public servants, a roundtable discussion and vote was taken during May’s General Meeting. The heavy majority vote was in favor of canceling the event this year.”
This is the first time the festival has been canceled in 54 years. The celebration of music, food, family activities, and beer garden, is attended by as many as 60,000 people.
“The festival is a year long labor of love that requires extensive planning and commitments from the City of Mukilteo, corporate sponsors, community service organizations, and a large group of volunteers,” Felt said. “With time closing, a fast decision was needed. The festival is fairly unique with heavy reliance on bus transportation and our beautiful waterfront park only has access from one end, which together makes distancing requirements difficult. The Parade and Run-A-Muk are also large gathering events that would be difficult to produce without substantial limitations.”
Those that have already submitted a vendor application and paid a fee will be refunded. Any questions regarding the status of refund should be directed to the festival office at 425-353-5516.
