Letter to the editor: Mukilteo needs more outdoor sports options

MCA, and it’s great but it’s not public, it’s got hours subject to management and staff discretion, and it’s not free.

A free public skate park gives an outdoor place for recreation, and will draw people into this community. The lack of a free public skate park is a serious detriment to this community.

There are a lot of people that do not skate as they can’t afford to pay to get into the Y at their prescribed hours.

The main thing that sets the Y apart is the indoor mini-ramp. The mini-ramp is amazing and one of very, very few in the state that is accessible and skate-able no matter the weather.

The outdoor park is fun, but it’s showing its age and there are better options that are free in other communities. Why don’t we have a free public skate park?

Mukilteo needs a legal bike park. We need to follow through on the 2016 Japanese Gulch trail plans to build out the bike park.

There are people and groups that can assist and are engaged with the city. Money was squandered in the Peace Park when it should have been spent on something people will actually use.

How many bikers and hikers do you see parked at the garden or dog park on a nice day? Many! Dedicated trails for bikes and much better trail markings (the way finding markers placed last year are not meaningful and don’t match published trail names ... better coordination could have helped this) will only open the trails up more for all users and aid in preventing conflict between the user groups.

Mukilteo needs a bike pump track. There was one in the gulch previously, and it was razed. This is another option that will give people a fun place to congregate and recreate.

See the tracks that were put in at North Bend, Leavenworth, or Bellingham. A pump track can be used by almost anyone to have a great time. We need one.

All of these options will draw people in, make our city more valuable, and increase happiness. We should get ahead of the curve and build.
