Ruben Mariscal cooks up a good life in America

Ruben Mariscal fondly remembers as a child riding a donkey out to his father's pasture each morning where he rounded up the cows and herded them back to the barn for his older brothers to milk. It was a daily chore before the boys headed off to school.

In fact, Mariscal looks back on much of those early years with a glad heart. Growing up in rural Mexico about 100 kilometers from Guadalajara, he lived a good life; some would call it idyllic.

But when he reached his teens, his dreams turned northward; America beckoned.
