By now, many of you may have heard or read that the capital bond passed with 60.34% approval. Since bonds require a 60% supermajority to pass, our proposition passed by a narrow margin, about 50 votes.

Our district’s bond was the only bond to pass in Snohomish County. I am very grateful for those of you who voted and encouraged your neighbors and friends to participate in the election. This outcome was a good reminder of the importance of every single vote.

“What’s next?” you might wonder. The Capital Projects team is scheduling the work over the six-year bond cycle. You will likely begin to see smaller projects this summer and larger construction projects happening @[email protected] summer.

The Discovery Elementary School addition project already has an architect, and the general contractor will be on board before Spring Break, but the construction will begin in 2021. Some schools may see their new integrated classroom door locks this summer as part of the safety and security upgrades.

Most projects will require some design, engineering and permitting, which takes time, sometimes more than a year for the larger projects. The work will be sequenced over the next six years and align with the district’s ability to sell portions of the entire bond.

We’ll provide you with occasional updates, but you can also stay up-to-date with project plans and progress on the 2020 Capital Bond webpage ( That page will be updated regularly, so please check back often.

I am grateful to the community for supporting this proposition. Thank you for being instrumental in providing quality schools for students and for investing in our community.
