Council Corner | Happy New Year from your Mukilteo Council President
Last updated 1/15/2020 at 12:35pm
I have been given the honor and privilege to serve as Mukilteo Council President for 2020. I am grateful and humbled by the support of the council and I pledge to do my best to be available and responsive to councilmembers and all the citizens. I am also looking forward to working with Council Vice-President Sarah Kneller on City business in 2020.
There are many things to address this year. Many of them will be familiar--the new ferry terminal and multi-modal transit connection; water front development and parking; budget concerns; growth management; and public safety; among others.
In addition, there are some new projects as well, such as the Harbour Reach Extension project, which will ease traffic conditions at Harbour Pointe Boulevard South and the Speedway; work will begin on the Peace Park, a commemorative and contemplative space, across from the Red Cup Café; and a new sidewalk will be installed on the Speedway between 2nd and 3rd, among others.
One of my goals will be to continue to build trust and teamwork on the council so we can work well together throughout this and subsequent years. I am pleased and excited by both the new and returning members of the council and their energy and commitment to Mukilteo. I am looking forward to working with everyone on the council.
The annual council retreat will be early in February. This is when we will define some specific priorities for the coming year. I see my position as being more of a facilitator to develop the expression of the will of the council in a cooperative and collaborative manner.
Please contact me or other councilmembers with any questions at: [email protected], or [email protected] Follow the extended agenda on the City website (Mukilteowa.gov) to find Council meetings you may want to attend. Current and past council meetings can also be watched on line.
I am looking forward to an exciting and productive year for the council, mayor, city staff and residents.
