New storage unit for Kamiak athletes

November 27, 2019

A new facility at Kamiak High School will provide more accessible and efficient storage for field and team equipment.

The 2014 voter-approved Mukilteo School District Capital Bond included $1.3 million for an improvement in athletic team support at Kamiak. This project includes a new building of roughly 1,924 square feet.

According to staff reports from the Mukilteo Hearing Examiner public hearing Oct. 22, the proposed storage building will be located near the sports fields within an enclosed fenced area. The proposed area is surrounded by natural vegetation, which provides screening for the adjacent residential properties.

The school district applied for a Conditional Use Permit with the City of Mukilteo April 29. The application and proposal location at 10801 Harbour Pointe Blvd was determined complete June 28.

Additional improvements to meet voter-approved bond commitments are proposed to the existing field house under a separate Tenant Improvement permit. Improvements under the TI include reconfiguring the interior of the building, adding a small exterior canopy, and adjusting the fencing to improve emergency access.

The current sports storage area would be modified to increase space for storage of student and staff belongings during athletic practices and events, and would provide a dry space for student belongings. The other area used for ground equipment would be modified to allow for athletic training/taping and first aid supplies.
