Kamiak boys qualify for state | Cross country

Carp Mukai and Jason Blinn helped lead Kamiak to a second-place finish at the Northwest District 4A boys cross country championships.
Mukai placed fourth and Blinn took fifth in the 5k race Saturday, Nov. 2, at South Whidbey High School.
The Knights earned a berth to this week’s state championships with the second-place finish.
Sophomore Jackson Hammons placed 11th and freshman Jaedyn Chase took 19th. Kamiak senior Kyle Yu was 23rd.
Jackson’s Brenden Charbeneau and Jordan Hanson finished first and second to lead the Timberwolves to a first-place finish. The Wolfpack scored 39 points and the Knights had 63. Lake Stevens (84) was third.
Mariner’s top finisher was soph-omore Dominic Cruz-Estrada, who placed 16th.
Kamiak’s Emma Arceo finished fourth in the girls race to earn a state berth.
Glacier Peak’s Alexis Palmer and Aviry Stratton finished first and second and helped the Grizzlies to the team title. Glacier Peak won with 46 points to finish ahead of Lake Stevens (55) and Jackson (78).
Mariner’s Kara Sevigny and Kyla Ojalehto placed 20th and 21st.
The top two teams and top 14 individuals advance to the state meet, which is Saturday, Nov. 9, at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
