Kate Agbayani, 21, from Everett, is a senior at Washington State University majoring in journalism and media production with an emphasis on broadcast production and is Beacon Publishing’s new intern.
“I’m excited to go out and talk to the community here at Mukilteo,” Agbayani said. “I’ve always loved meeting new people and listening to their stories.”
She hopes to improve her hard news writing and gain experience working in a professional environment.
“I’ve written for a college newspaper before, so it will be interesting seeing the differences and similarities between the two,” she said. “When I was writing for the college newspaper, I mainly did feature stories, so I want to challenge myself and cover other types of stories.”
She will be interning with Beacon Publishing until August.
“I had a great journalism teacher this past semester at WSU. I want to bring all those things I’ve learned in that class and use them in a professional setting,” Agbayani said, “I’m happy I’ll be able to use those skills at Beacon Publishing.”
“We’re really excited to have Kate on board for the next few months,” Mukilteo Beacon editor Brandon Gustafson said. “She’s voiced that she wants to expand her horizons and work on a lot of different kinds of stories, so it will be fun to see her progress throughout the summer.”
