60th Anniversary ~ 60-årsjubileum

Posted

Mrs. Alma Knudsen is a retired auditor and banker who enjoys gardening, sewing, knitting, baking, and above all, quilting at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church (OSLC-Everett), mastering everything she does!

Dr. Alf Lunder Knudsen is a retired musician and music teacher. He sings in Everett’s oldest continuous performing group, the Norwegian Male Chorus (1903). He retired after nearly 40 years directing Seattle’s oldest chorus, the Norwegian Male Chorus (1889), and is Director-in-Chief Emeritus of the Pacific Coast Norwegian Singers Association.

These days he mostly putters around the yard of their Mukilteo home.

The Knudsens have three children and two grandchildren.

”Honeymoon highlights”

In 1959, Alf was a UW student, Alma was a banker, and together they “scraped up” enough money to celebrate a honeymoon road trip in their 1951 Ford. “Baggage” included Alf’s mother, whose destination was San Francisco, CA to visit relatives, however her real motivation for “hitching” the ride was to get on the popular TV show “I’ve Got a Secret.” She never made it on the show, but said she enjoyed the ride.

The Knudsen’s 25th Anniversary Honeymoon was celebrated on board the popular “Norwegian Coastal Milk-Run” Hurtigruten, sailing Norway’s coast from Bergen north to Kirkenes on the Russian border, stopping at every point that has a docking facility to accommodate the ship – today’s version, as in 1984, a luxury liner.

The 50th Anniversary Honeymoon celebration was a “short trip” from Mukilteo to Everett’s OSLC with relatives, friends, singers, and quilters for a smashing surprise party arranged by the Knudsen children.

Perhaps the 60th Anniversary Honeymoon may be celebrated “on board” what in the future will be referred to as The Alaska Airlines’ Inaugural 60th Anniversary Honeymoon Flight – still in the planning stage out of Paine Field
