Public safety thank you l Fire Sirens

Last updated 9/12/2018 at Noon

As we pass the solemn anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, it is important to recognize our public safety personnel- those that have defended us around the country, and our own close at home.

The fire fighters and police officers serving Mukilteo are a great group of caring individuals with a big heart for the community. They go above and beyond their “response” duties every day to take care of the needs they encounter. Our personnel value integrity and doing the right thing, even when no one else is watching.

Unfortunately this quiet service to the community hurts us sometimes, as we are not good at tooting our own horn. Folks do not know the great things that happen here.

As we saw this year, this quiet service hurt us at the ballot box. Nonetheless, I am proud that our crews always remain professional, quietly taking care of the jobs that need to be done to serve the community.

To the women and men proudly serving Mukilteo, thank you! Your service is valued and our community would not be what it is without you. You are where you are supposed to be. Keep up the great work, rise above, and know that you are appreciated.

@September is Preparedness Month@

Have you been paying attention to the hurricanes that have suddenly cropped up in both the Atlantic and Pacific? Tis the season, as they say. What would you do if a hurricane hit here? Are you prepared to weather the storm?

While we may not have regular natural disaster threats, we have one lurking under our feet. Earthquake preparation in many ways resembles preparation for hurricanes, as we will be cut off from traditional services and resources for a long period of time.

We have booklets with information on how to prepare for earthquakes here at Fire Station 25, 10400 47th Pl W. Stop by during office hours (Tuesday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and pick one up. Please take time to prepare!

If the big one hits here, there won’t be enough of us to go around for quite a while.
