Mukilteo wins two district titles | Little League softball


The Mukilteo Little League’s 9-11-year-old all-star team displays its district championship banner Thursday, June 21, at Phil Johnson Ball Fields.

Three Mukilteo Little League softball teams advanced to their respective District 1 championship games and two of them won to advance to the state tournament.

The 8- to 10-year-old and the 9- to 11-year-old teams captured district titles and the Majors team finished second.

Mukilteo defeated Stilly Valley 4-3 in the 8-10 championship game Tuesday June 19, at Phil Johnson Ball Fields in Everett.

Synclair Mawukeku pitched the first four innings and Tyler Karabach took over in the fifth with Mukilteo leading 4-3 and she shut down Stilly Valley to preserve the victory.

Mukilteo beat Sky Valley 21-1 in the tournament opener and followed with a 12-2 victory over Mill Creek. Mukilteo also shut out Stilly Valley 5-0.

“We hit very well against some pretty good pitching,” coach Ryan Karabach said of Mukilteo’s successful tournament.

Mukilteo defeated Alderwood 17-0 in the 9-11 championship game Thursday, June 21, at Phil Johnson Ball Fields.

Allyson McNulty struck out nine and Vivian Mawdeku, Kiera Thompson Estrella Urretia each had a double.

Mukilteo opened with a 17-2 victory over Marysville. Isa Davis went 4-for-4 with two inside-the-park home runs in the first inning. Mukilteo then defeated Alderwood 19-4. McNulty and Davis each went 4-for-4.

“We had good pitching and good hitting,” coach Jeff Davis said.

The 8-10 team is composed of Nichelle Adams, Emma Barrett, Aurora Boelter, Hayden Downer, Frances Famatiga. Tyler Karabach, Akemi Kolar, Alexa Marcelo, Synclair Mawudeku, Haylee Osborn, Mia Semith, Emma Stansfield and Isaella Torres. The team manager is Ryan Karabach and the assistant coaches are Curt Kolar and Sumeet Adams.

The 9-11 team includes Morgan Avery, Isa Davis, Kathering Funston, Audrey Garcia, Odessa Kaufman, Vivian Mawudeku, Allyson McNulty, Alyssa Quevedo, Eliana Shepard, Shealynn Sistek, Kira Thompson, Estrella Urrutia, Kelli Wilson. The manager is Jeff Davis and the assistant coaches are Ed Atoigue and Jeff Thompson.

The Mukilteo Little League’s Majors all-star team placed second at the district tournament. The combined Mukilteo/Everett Juniors all-star team also took second place.

The Majors team is composed of Aliya Boonsripisal, Ally Boulger, Sampagita Bruton, Gabrielle Cummings, Elisabeth Funston, Heather Lehmann, Amiah Menchaca, Kaylee Mitchell, Samantha Porter, Samantha Rohwer, Grace Rudek, Amanda Webb and Katie Wills. The manager is Bill Rohwer and the assistant coaches are Peter Shearer and Jason Cummings.

The combined Mukilteo/Everett juniors team also finished second. Forty-two softball all-star players on four different teams played in the championship games of their divisions.

The 8-10 state tournament is scheduled for Saturday, July 7, in Cheney and the 9-11 state tournament is set for Saturday, July 14, in Shoreline.

The district baseball tournaments currently are being played at Phil Johnson Ball Fields and Willis Tucker Community Park in Snohomish.
