Emily Gustafson, Mackay Gustafson, Brandon Gustafson, and Madison Goodrich with the two grads, Katie Gustafson and Molly Goodrich.

I’m sure you all have heard it so far, but here it is one more time:

Congratulations to the graduating class of 2018!

As I’ve mentioned before, this was a personal one for me as my sister Katie and stepsister Molly both graduated from Kamiak last Friday. You two make me very proud and have such bright futures ahead of you and I can’t wait to see you two succeed in life.

In addition to seeing family graduate, some guys I coached in baseball at Kamiak graduated as well.

To Jacob Davis, Michael Cooper, Luke Doten, Morgan White, Greg Marshall, Bryce Nelson, and Logan Mickelson, congratulations you guys! It was great getting to know you all on the field the last few years and I’m excited to see what your futures’ hold.

It was awesome to be down on the floor for both Kamiak and Mariner’s graduation while I shot pictures.

Seeing the excitement you all had as you received your diplomas and celebrated with your friends was awesome to see. Wherever the future takes you, remember those who helped you along the way.

For me, it’s crazy to think that I was once one of those bright-eyed seniors, shaking with excitement as I waited to receive my fake diploma and shake Mr. Gallagher’s hand.

Speaking of Mr. Gallagher, hats off to him! He finished his last graduating ceremony on Friday and will have his last day of school the day this paper comes out.

For those of you who don’t know, Mr. Gallagher is retiring from Kamiak. He has been at the helm for quite a while now, and helped guide Kamiak through rough times the last few years in the wake of student suicides and the 2016 shooting.

I was talking to Mukilteo Police Chief Cheol Kang a few weeks ago who said Gallagher did a great job creating a connection with local law enforcement and using agencies and resources in the area to help students who need it.

I always enjoyed talking to Mr. Gallagher during my time at Kamiak, and I’m sure I speak for a lot of the Kamiak and Mukilteo when I say he will be missed in the halls of Kamiak. Congratulations on retirement Mr. Gallagher!

Class of 2019, you’re up next! Enjoy your summer break and come back this September ready to lead your respective schools and classes!
