Carole M. Goldberg passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on May 30, 2018 following a seven and a half month brave and valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born May 11, 1945 in Princeton, New Jersey to parents John and Marjorie MeCouch, Carole grew up in Pennsylvania with her two sisters Joan and Lynne. After graduating from Springfield High School in 1963, she completed her nursing degree at the Presbyterian School of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania in 1966.
She worked as an OR nurse in Pennsylvania and New Jersey until she moved to Seattle, Washington and married in 1971.
She was a devoted and loving mother to her three children Jim, Mark and Kristi and settled in Mukilteo, Washington in 1978, where she remained to the end. Carole was an active citizen in the community and was a lifelong advocate for children.
She served several years as PTA President of Mukilteo Elementary and worked tirelessly with the city to get sidewalks put in on the Mukilteo Speedway following the tragic death of a child. She found endless joy as the leader of Kristi’s Girl Scouts Brownies Troop, taking them on several trips all over the Pacific Northwest.
Carole was a driving force in raising money for the Mukilteo Boys and Girls Club, leading the charge on the annual Luau auction and serving as club secretary for more than 15 years. Her amazing contributions to the community were recognized in 1991 as Carole was honored as Mukilteo Citizen of the Year.
Carole was guided by her faith and was a passionate member of the Mukilteo Presbyterian Church, which she began attending 40 years ago in the original Third Street location. She was actively involved in several groups including the choir.
Her heart was forever full of love and she led worldwide prayer groups that provided support and faith for a countless many with a special focus on sick children. Her selfless efforts had positive impacts on so many people throughout her life; her family and friends take comfort in knowing she is continuing Gods work.
Carole is survived by her three children Jim (husband Jim), Mark and Kristi, four grandchildren Taylor, Arman, Kylie and Bradlee, her sister Joan Hawker, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her mother Marjorie Peck, father John MeCouch, and sister Lynne Solomon.
Celebration of Carole’s life will be held on June 22 at 1 p.m. at the Mukilteo Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to The Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. Jude’s Children’s research hospitals. Praying for sick children was one of her greatest passions.
