Kamiak grad graduating from Naval Academy

Nicholas J. Taglialavore, son of Mike and Debbie Taglialavore of Mukilteo, graduates from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, on May 25, and will be commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy.

Taglialavore, a 2014 graduate of Kamiak High School, successfully completed four years of intensive academic, physical, and professional training. He has earned a Bachelor

of Science degree with a major in Mechanical Engineering.

Following graduation, Taglialavore will attend the Navy nuclear propulsion course in the Charleston, South Carolina area for approximately one year, and then will be assigned to a submarine where he will begin his Naval service.

He will find out what sub he will be assigned to and where he will be homeported while attending his nuclear propulsion course of study.

Taglialavore is the second from his family to have graduated from the Naval Academy. His older sister Lauren, a 2008 Kamiak graduate, graduated from the Naval Academy in 2012.

The Naval Academy currently has more than 4,000 students who comprise the Brigade of Midshipmen and who come from every state in the country.

To be accepted, you must first be nominated by your district Congressmen or Senator, then have your name submitted to the admissions board.

Of a norm of approximately 20,000 applicants each year, only 1,200 are offered an appointment to the Naval Academy.
