A town hall discussion will be held on April 26 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Rosehill Community Center (304 Lincoln Ave.) to discuss gun violence prevention and school safety.

As I watched in shock as the events of Parkland unfolded, I was left with an unshakable need to do something.

Our kids have spoken, and it's our turn as adults to follow up their pleas with actions. This is a very important evening to sit and talk and to have a conversation, an urgent conversation, about guns and the safety of our children.

This is about how we understand the issues and are working to come up with answers together.

We’ve all heard the debates, and seen the student walkouts and everyone has many things to say about this critical issue facing our community.

At the upcoming Town Hall, we will hear from activists, experts, policy makers, and the community and I am very grateful for the opportunity to facilitate this crucial conversation as we work together as a community to address the issues we face and work towards solutions in a unified front.

I am blessed to have both council support and school board participation and I thank everyone for coming forward to support this complex issue that can affect any of us at any time.

A blink of an eye and any of our lives could be changed forever.

Please join us as we explore ways to identify, prevent, and respond to this multifaceted and very complex issue plaguing America.
