Mariner golf at a glance

March 28, 2018

Mariner boys

Coach: Dustin Weld, fifth year

Top players: Junior Josh Olsen will be competitive with the top golfers in the league and freshman Evan Park has shown tremendous potential throughout practice.

Outlook: “If we can qualify two golfers for districts that would be a positive progress for the program,” Weld said. “Once in districts, it’s anyone’s game. I have a lot of players who are brand new to the game of golf so I am looking forward to seeing them make progress throughout the season with their scores, technique, and overall knowledge of the game.”

Mariner girls

Coach: Jennifer Hampton, second year

Top players: Trinity Hanning, Michelle Forbes-Luong and Nevaeh Russell. “All of these girls are doing a great job serving as role models for our beginners,” Hampton said. Jazz Caparas is the team’s top newcomer. She routinely scores in the low 70s on 18 holes.

Outlook: “We are still a team made up of mostly beginning golfers,” Hampton said. “We hope to continue to improve our game over the course of the season in order to become even more competitive against other schools.”
